Sphere Drones Wins Tender for NSW Natural Hazards Technology Program

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve secured a major tender with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to provide our state-of-the-art HubX drone-in-a-box systems.

This partnership is part of the NSW Government’s $1.89 million Natural Hazards Technology Program, which focuses on protecting the environment and preventing natural disasters like bushfires.

So, what does this mean?

Essentially, our HubX system is about to help NPWS level up their ability to monitor and protect large, remote areas of the state, all without having to be physically present.

HubX will be deployed across NSW at: Yathong Nature Reserve, Yiraaldiya National Park, Nattai National Park, Guula Ngurra National Park, and Kosciuszko National Park.

What Makes HubX so special?

Our HubX system is a complete remote solution. It’s a self-sustaining, off-grid unit that can be mounted on a 4WD-capable trailer—perfect for the rugged terrain found across New South Wales.

From the safety of a central control centre, NPWS will be able to launch, monitor, and manage drones, providing real-time aerial views of critical areas. This is a big win for conservation and bushfire prevention efforts in the state, as HubX enables quicker responses to threats and more efficient monitoring of vast landscapes.

HubX ensures seamless and reliable operations in any location, no matter how remote your site.

Enhancing conservation and bushfire prevention

This partnership is more than just tech—it’s about making a real impact on the ground (or, in this case, in the air). With HubX, NPWS will have the tools to:

  • Respond faster to bushfires and other natural hazards using real-time aerial monitoring.
  • Boost conservation efforts by monitoring endangered species and managing feral-free zones more effectively.
  • Cover more ground in less time, increasing operational efficiency even in the most remote locations.

Strengthening Sphere Drones’ leadership

This win with NPWS follows our recent success working with the Western Australian Police Force (WAPOL) on their Drones as First Responder (DFR) program. Both wins solidify Sphere Drones' role as a key player in delivering innovative drone solutions for public safety and environmental management across Australia.

Our CEO, Paris Cockinos, put it best: “We’re honoured to partner with NPWS to help protect some of the most precious and vulnerable parts of New South Wales. HubX’s innovative technology will allow NPWS to deploy drones quickly in remote locations, improving their ability to monitor high-risk areas, prevent bushfires, and conserve endangered wildlife.”

What’s Next?

Starting in January 2024, HubX will be field-tested over a 12-month pilot phase to ensure it’s ready for full-scale deployment. During this time, NPWS will trial the system in real-world conditions, using it to enhance their natural hazard response and conservation efforts.

This is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting and impactful journey with NPWS, and we can’t wait to see how HubX transforms their operations.
