Vivid Sydney is in it’s eighth year combining the world of light, music and ideas….and this year, tech company, Intel, are doing just that. The multinational corporation are bringing their drone light show 'Drone 100' to Sydney Vivid. This will be the first time a drone driven performance has ever been apart of this award winning annual event.

According to Gizmodo, the newly choreographed ‘animation’ will be accompanied by the Sydney Youth Orchestra who will be performing Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony for the show. The drones will be controlled by one main pilot that display different patterns and colours for the production.

Intel’s Anil Nanduri recognises the ‘quickly emerging’ market of drones as an ‘important computing platform of the future’ which has been a key inspiration behind ‘Drone 100’. He mentions that the show is a way to exemplify how experiences can be reinvented with new technology. The aim of the show to ‘inspire the imagination’ and ‘highlight the potential of drone technology’ of viewers. In addition, ‘Drone 100’ reflects ideas of industrial application such as bushfire management, delivery of medical supplies or infrastructure repairs (Gizmodo).

Prior to entering the Vivid Show, Intel had a vision of lighting up the nights sky with a record-setting of quatcopters in synchronised flight. Gizmag has mentioned a Guinness World Records judge was seen on site to verify the record, which carries the official title of the Most Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) airborne simultaneously.

Intel Drone 100 will run between June 8 and June 12, with a seven minute performance every night starting at 7:55pm, weather permitting, over the waters of Sydney Harbour for all public commuters to see. Intel is also setting up a VIP viewing area on the eastern side of the Opera House.
