What is distance lock?
While it might not seem important at first, what distance lock allows the drone to do ensures the data is of higher quality and accurate throughout the inspection. As the name states, the flight mode locks the drone into place while letting it move to the right or left. This allows the drone to stay the same distance from the object being inspected for the whole duration and ensures the camera always faces the object.
What are the benefits of distance lock?
Consistent data
The first and most obvious is that the drone stays a certain distance from an object. This ensures the data being captured is consistent and is affected by lighting or depth perception when analysing it later on. As the camera is always facing the object, this also removes any inconsistency that can be brought on from the angle an object is being inspected from, especially when the light is creating shadows.
Higher quality data
Having the Elios 2 worry about itself when it comes to the distance from the object means you can now get much closer than you previously would have been able to when flying it manually. While the Elios 2 does have a 4K camera, allowing it to get closer during an inspection means you can zoom in more and see more detail.
